Round 4

Doug: And we're back. Final round of Net Definition. Plain and simple -- the winner of this round wins the game and plays for CY$50,000. For John, the extra incentive of a new car and 100-grand is in play.

Here's Scarlett with the championship definition.

(FF reveal sfx)

Scarlett: "O Canada".

Doug: Plain and simple definition for a deciding round -- "O Canada".

John, as the winner of the third round, you have the option to give the first letter away and then possibly taking the next letter for yourself -- or you may have Jay give you the first letter and then maybe let him take the next letter.

Your call -- who gives the first letter away of this round?

John: I'll give the first letter.

Doug: All right. Give away a letter you do not want.

John: I'll give the J.

Doug: Giving Jay a J -- and there's no J.

John: Take the E, please.

Doug: I'm afraid -- there's no E. Over to Jay Cross now.

Jay: I'll give him an X.

Doug: And there's no X. Take a letter.

Jay: I'll try an A for myself.

Doug: No A either. We've yet to put a letter in the answer in this decisive round. Back to John.

John: I'll give the Q.

Doug: No Q. Take a letter now.

John: Take the O, please.

Doug: There is one O.

(ding)

Doug: With the one O, you're entitled to a guess. A lot riding on it: the game, 100-grand, a new car and a berth in the mega playoff.

The definition again -- "O Canada".

John: Not seeing it yet. Pass.

(buzz buzz)

Doug: And we'll pass it back to Jay.

Jay: Z for John.

Doug: Giving away a Z -- and there's no Z. Take a letter.

Jay: I'll keep with the vowels and take I for myself.

Doug: There's just the one.

(ding)

Doug: Next to last letter in the answer. The right solution makes you our new champion. The definition -- "O Canada".

Jay: I'm gonna have to pass unforunately.

(buzz buzz)

Doug: Passing it back to the champ.

John: I'll give the K.

Doug: No K. Take one now.

John: I guess I'll finish the vowels and take the U, please.

Doug: How about *two* U's?

(ding)

Doug: One U in each word. Can you win it with the vowels showing? If so, it's the game plus CY$100,000 and a new car -- and the tourney berth. The definition -- "O Canada".

John: Yep, those U's did the trick. The puzzle is Country Music.

(scattered cheers from the crowd)

Doug: Keep applaudin' -- cause he's completed the field for the Mega Playoff!

(bells; audience cheers; The Mad Dash victory music plays)

Doug: "O Canada" is country music since the song is Canada's national anthem. And the name of a country, "Canada", is in the title of the song. So a little bit of a double pun in there.

JOHN
JAY

Doug: John, CY$2500 for this game and lots more. We'll get into the specifics shortly. Jay, well-played game. Unfortunately, we send you home with just CY$250. But we have lovely parting gifts backstage and our thanks for playing Net Definition. Big hand for Jay Cross.

(audience cheers)

Doug: John, as they say, to the victor go the spoils. And here comes your first.

(new car music plays) (D.J. Hamilton drives this in...)

Scarlett: For your driving enjoyment, John IT'S A RESTORED CAR! (audience cheers) This restored 1965 Ford Mustang two-door coupe comes with a powerful V8 engine, chrome wheels, restored leather and a touch of nostalgia. This fantastic car is worth CY$19,000. Congratulations.

(more cheers)

Doug: And lest we forget -- for three straight wins, a bonus of CY$100,000. (more cheers) With all these interruptions from the crowd, I'm starting to feel like I'm delivering a State of the Union speech.

(audience laughs)

JOHN

Doug: Total in cyber-cash of 118,500. (theme plays) (more cheers)(more cheers)
