Welcome to Game 11 of Net Definition. Shawn Wells is the current champ with one win and CY$12,500. He's looking to add more.
The player closest to the right answer to this question, high or low, will be his challenger. Remember, if you played in Game 8, 9 or 10 -- or are on retired status ahead of our tournament of champions -- please sit on your hands and let someone else in on the fun with the pun.
Now the query...
On May 16, 2009, at 9:00pm Central, we watched a GSN rerun of "Chain Reaction". This episode was originally part of the show's first season based in New York. The men's team won the episode's main game. Including bonus round winnings, how much money did the men win? Please respond to the nearest multiple of $100.
(time passes)
OK, times up. The fellers didn't do too bad.
I forgot how many answers it took to double the two grand. But they got four thou. Who's the closest?
Will Schmarder $1900It's Will. Recall he was the only player to win a round against an otherwise unstoppable Andy Silikovitz during his reign of terror. What will happen here? Find out as we start Net Definition.
====================================================================== Rich Jeffries: "Make Dirty Harry Laugh" (audience laughs) will not be seen at this time -- so that we may bring you this attempt at humor. ======================================================================
Rich: From CDM Enterprises, Net Definition. What her fellow Canadians think of Shania.
Rich: Solution...
Rich: ...and our solution to fun with the pun on VBS is Net Definition. Now, for the man who helps us add it all up. And now, puns impress him much -- our host, Doug Morris!
Doug: Super Twain, huh? Well, I'm American by birth and agree with that take Shania's super. Hellooooooooooo, everybody and welcome to Net Definition -- the game of puns and wordplay.
We crowned a new champion on the last show. He won a lot of cyber-money, he's after more and there's a challenger standing in his way. Right, Rich?
SHAWN WILL Rich: Yes, indeed, Doug. Our current champion has won one game and CY$12,500 -- Shawn Wells. And his opponent -- Will Schmarder.
Doug: Will, welcome aboard. Shawn, welcome back.
Brief overview of the rules. The players will take turns giving away letters to the opposition -- then taking them for themselves. When a player's turn starts, he'll give a letter away to his opponent -- one he does not want. If that letter given away does not appear in the answer, he maintains control and then takes a letter for himself.
When a letter goes on the board, the player who was given or has taken that letter is entitled to a guess. A correct solution pays cyber-money.
Doug: We're about to start Round 1 -- worth CY$250. The next round is worth CY$500. The third CY$750. If necessary, we'll play a fourth round for CY$1250. The first player to accumulate CY$1500 or more wins the game -- and then goes on to our A to Z Round for CY$50,000. (audience cheers) And if any player sweeps the first three rounds, that contestant goes on to play a double-header of A to Z for CY$100,000 total.
Doug: Will, you're the challenger. You'll start us off. Let's start the game with this definition.
