A To Z Round
Doug: We're back and Brian Moore is going for more in The A to Z Round. We'll get to that shortly. But should any player win three straight games of Net Definition, that player earns a brand new car, another CY$100,000 and a berth in the Net Definition Mega Playoff -- where the winner of that tournament is guaranteed to win CY$1,000,000.
Doug: So, Brian, win this game two more times and you'll be in the running for that million. Right now, let's concentrate on CY$50,000. Here is how we play The A to Z Round.
In a moment, Rich will give you the bonus definition. Then, I will give you letters one at a time -- in alphabetical order from A to Z. The moment I give you a letter that appears at least once in the answer, I'll stop and then entitle you to a guess.
If you give me the right answer, you win CY$1000 for each letter hidden. That would include multiples. So, if you were to leave three S's and two T's hidden in the answer, that's a total of CY$5000.
Now here's where the 50-grand comes into play. After Rich gives you the definition, we'll allow you to guess before I even give you the A. If you can answer correctly with just the blank spaces exposed on the board, you will win CY$50,000.
Doug: I wish you the best of luck -- as Rich gives you the bonus definition.
Rich: There's a fire department here.
Doug: There's a fire department here. Brian, before I turn you loose, I should tell you that there's one character in the answer that is not a letter of the alphabet. So to make things fair, please show Brian the non-letter character in the solution.
Doug: It's a comma. So, Brian -- one time only -- for CY$50,000. There's a fire department here.
Brian: Sad to say, I can't figure it out yet.
Doug: Not even going to guess?
(time passes) (buzz buzz) (a few groans from the crowd)
Doug: OK, no CY$50,000 -- but I'll give you the A.
Doug: Woah, and there are three A's in the answer. Nine blank spaces up there -- so a chance at CY$9000. There's a fire department here.
Brian: I still have no guess yet.
Doug: OK, we'll proceed as I give you the B (pause) C (pause) D.
Doug: D falls in between the A's on the bottom row. You're now playing for CY$8000. There's a fire department here.
Brian: I think I know the second word is Nevada, but I don't know the first one.
Doug: OK, well we have to count that as a wrong answer. We move on to the E.
Doug: Well, all I will say is your thought on the second word, so far, is proving accurate. You're playing for seven grand now. There's a fire department here.
Brian: Alamo, Nevada
Doug: Incorrect. We move on to F (pause) G (pause) H (pause) I (pause) J (pause) K.
Doug: There's a K in the first word. Let's see if that helps as you play for CY$6000. There's a fire department here.
