Episode 5 Game 1

The Atlanta Braves or the New York Yankees. Who won the 1996 World Series?

(Will buzzes in)

Doug: Will.

Will: That would unfortunately be the Stankees.

(audience laughs)

Doug: I take that as "Yankees".

Will: Yes, I mean the Yanks.

Doug: I also take it you're not a fan of said Yanks. Either way, you're right. (audience applause) Free roll for you.

(Will rolls)

Will: YOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(scattered cheers)

Doug: And it's your favorite number -- the yo-leven. We've got CY$1100 in the pot. Want to bank or roll?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Will: You know what, Doug, let's throw them again. Let's get a point here.

(Will rolls)

Doug: Oh, mercy. Another 7.

Doug: All right. Round 6. Will still leads CY$2000 to nothing. This is possibly the last question of the game.

Illinois Avenue, Kentucky Avenue or Pennsylvania Avenue. On a standard Monopoly game board, which of these avenues is in the green color group?

(Will buzzes in)

Doug: Will.

Will: That would be Pennsylvania Avenue.

Doug: And that's right.

(audience applause)Will: I also painted one of my Monopoly houses white just for that property. :P

(audience laughs)

Doug: All right, President Schmarder, please take your free roll.

(Will rolls)

Doug: A 6 for CY$600. Keep in mind regardless of how much distance you put between yourself and Michael at the end of this round, there will always be at least one way for Michael to catch up. With that six, bank the six or roll for more tricks?

(audience shouts suggestions)

(Will rolls)

Will: Well, either way he has to get a double to have a chance -- but I'll try to better my odds and keep going. Come on, yo.

(Will rolls)

Doug: No yo -- but a double 3.

Doug: Now, we could add another CY$600 to the pot -- or you may go to the double 3 screen on the board. What say ye?

Will: Hard six, eh? I'm chicken, I'll take the sure thing.

Doug: All right, the pot's up to CY$1200. Had you gone to the board, what would've happened?

(ding)

Doug: Ironically, the pot would've gone from CY$600 up to CY$1200. Win-win situation there. Let's shuffle.

(amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)

Doug: Now, will you bank the CY$1200 -- or possibly roll for more?

(audience shouts suggestions)

Will: Over three grand was my goal, so I'm going to take the money and run.

Doug: Banking another CY$1200.

(ding)

Doug: And with that, Will has CY$3200. Michael's played well -- but ran into some bad luck with the sevens. As promised, Michael, there's always at least one way to catch up. Let's start making good on the promise -- as we have to shuffle the board again.

(amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)

Doug: Michael, this time, we added to the shuffle "tie the leader", which means what it says. There's also an extra roll attached to at least one of the amounts on the board.

Keep in mind this is not a free roll -- and you're not building a pot. One roll's all you get. As long as you don't roll a 7, you immediately bank its value in hundreds of cyber-dollars. What you're really after is a double.

Good luck -- and give 'em a roll.

(Michael rolls)

Doug: Hey now. Double 2. Michael, if the score were closer, I'd offer you the decision of banking CY$400 or taking what's in the double 2 screen. Since banking CY$400 would result in a loss, we have to default to the board. Let's see what's hiding in the double 2 screen.

(ding) (audience cheers)

Doug: Wow! CY$3000 *and* another roll of the dice.

(ding)

Doug: If that doesn't ease the pain of earlier rotten luck, I don't know what will. Before you roll again, let's shuffle the board again.

(amounts are shuffled on the double decision board; after shuffling stops, the amounts are covered immediately with the doubles)

Doug: And now you may roll again.

(Michael rolls)

Doug: Gadzooks! *Another* double. But this one comes with the decision.

Michael, you may go ahead, bank the CY$600 and then let Will play catch up -- *OR* you may go to the double 3 screen on the board and take what's awaiting you there.

Keep in mind, the double 3 screen may hide something that will vault you into the lead -- or something worth less than CY$200, which would make Will the automatic winner.

Think it over -- and tell us what you want to do.

(audience shouts suggestions)

Michael: I'm going for what's behind the double 3.

Doug: Wow. Thinking you'll take a bigger lead with double 3. Well -- let see. It has to be worth at least CY$200 to Michael to stay in the game. Let's see it.
