Audience Game

Let's play The Jackpot Game as this episode of Hot Dice draws to a close.

If you've played in a main or audience game in this fourth episode, please sit on your hands and let someone else in on the action.

The prizes in the jackpot remain the same as before: an Elvis Presley jukebox full of his CDs, a trip to Memphis and CY$20,000.

A standard deck of 52 playing cards has been shuffled and awaits your cut -- but, your cut has to be close enough to our secret number.

We've randomly chosen that secret number from 0 to 51 inclusive. To qualify for this audience game, just e-mail me a number from 0 to 51. The player closest to our lucky number wins CY$250 -- which could lead to tens of thousands more. Based on your number, we'll cut the deck that many cards deep.

(time passes)

And that's time. What's the number, first?

(ding)

Now, who came the closest to 41.

Michael Clifford	33
Andy Silikovitz 33

(Greed tie sfx)

Hark! A tie. Rules say the player who locked in 33 sooner goes for the jackpot. And he is none other than...

Andy Silikovitz 33

...Andy. We'll see if he can hit that jackpot -- after this.

Doug: Welcome back. Andy Silikovitz has won the right to play The Jackpot Game.

Andy, we're a little short on time -- so we're going to get right into the game.

The prizes that were not claimed on the last show are still at stake in the jackpot. To recap briefly, you're playing for an Elvis Presley jukebox filled with CDs containing his hits, a trip to Memphis including a tour of Elvis' Graceland plus CY$20,000. That makes the jackpot is worth CY$38,050. All of it is yours provided you meet or exceed this goal.

("Celebrity Sweepstakes" tabulation sfx)

Doug: CY$4600. Now let's spot you CY$250.

(ding)

Doug: Before we started, you cut a deck of 52 cards and we placed the first seven cards accordingly behind the letters in "jackpot". In a moment, we'll reveal the card behind the letter J.

As you know, the idea to bet at least half your cyber-money on whether the next card in line is higher or lower. Wagers always have to be in increments of CY$25.

Keep playing until you run out of cyber-money, reach or exceed the goal of CY$4600 -- or if it's mathematically impossible to reach the goal.

Now, before we reveal that first card, predict the suit, please. If you're right, your CY$250 quadruples to CY$1000.

Andy: In honor of Ann and Nancy Wilson, Hearts.

Doug: Picking Hearts. Let's flip that first card around and see if you're starting with CY$1000.

(buzz)

Doug: Nope; 5 of Spades. All righty. Please bet at least CY$125 the next card's higher or lower than a 5.

Andy: 150 higher.

Doug: CY$150 higher than a 5.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Just a notch higher -- but that's a winner for CY$400 total.

By the way, anytime we have a tie card situation, that still pays. Also, aces are high and twos are low. So, with that, you have CY$400 and a 6 to play off of.

Andy: 200 higher.

Doug: Going half higher. Let's hope it's *really* high.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: A Queen. Sweet. Andy, the goal of CY$4600 is still within reach and you've got a great card to play with.

Andy: 600 lower.

Doug: Betting it all lower. This would be a great time for a 2. Is the next card lower?

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Just a notch lower. You've doubled up to 1200. Jackpot still in reach.

Andy: 1200 lower.

Doug: All in on lower again. If the next card's a 2, you'll double to 2400 -- and then the next card in line is an automatic win since tie cards pay. What's the next card?

(ding) (audience cheers)

Doug: It's a 3. Andy, I'm sure you've crunched the numbers. You have to bet at least 1200 on the next card. If you bet 2200 and make the right call, you'll reach the goal and hit the jackpot.

You of course may bet more than 2200. What's your bet here?

Andy: 2400 higher!

(scattered cheers)

Doug: Another all in bet.

(strike buzzer; audience groans; BB87 loss cue)

Doug: Woah!

(more groans)

Doug: If that's not a bad beat, I haven't seen it. The one thing you didn't want to see in the sixth position is there. I'm terribly sorry.

Well, we have the Vita Mix 3600 that Scarlett spoke of earlier for you as our thanks for playing. May you have better luck from here.

With that, we'll wrap up this episode of Hot Dice. Will Schmarder will look to add to his impressive winnings of more than CY$60,000 next time. Until then, make it a great day, keep the faith and treasure your loved ones.

(closing theme plays; audience applause)
