Audience Game

And it's Jackpot Game time as we wind down another episode of Hot Dice.

If you've played in a main or audience game in this third episode, please sit on your hands and let someone else in on the action.

A regular deck of 52 playing cards has been shuffled and awaits your cut -- but, your cut has to be close enough to our secret number.

We've randomly chosen that secret number from 0 to 51 inclusive. To qualify for this audience game, just e-mail me a number from 0 to 51. The player closest to our lucky number wins CY$250 -- which could lead to tens of thousands more. Based on your number, we'll cut the deck that many cards deep.

(time passes)

(ding)

Time's up -- and we went ahead and revealed the secret number -- 27. Who's the closest?

Dom Falance 26

Awesome, Dom, off by one. We'll play The Jackpot Game with Dom in a bit.

======================================================================

Men dressed like the seven dwarves: (singing)
I owe, I owe, Net Debt is here, let's go.

(dwarves whistle)

I owe -- I owe, I owe, I owe.

(they still sing as announcer says...)

Voice guy: Get out of the red with Kevin Kolsen on Net Debt. Only VBS.

======================================================================

Doug: We're back and Dom Falance has won the right to play The Jackpot Game for cyber-cash and fabulous prizes. Dom, for being picked, we spot you CY$250.

(ding)

Doug: Now, just before the break ended, we had you cut a standard deck of 52 playing cards. We then placed the first seven cards from the top of the deck accordingly behind the letters in the word "JACKPOT".

In a moment, we'll show you the card behind the J -- and then you'll bet whether the next card up the line is higher or lower.

Keep in mind you must bet in increments of CY$25 -- and you must wager at least half your score. A correct prediction or tie cards mean you win your bet. Aces are high, deuces are low.

Bet your way across the board -- until you reach your goal, it's mathematically impossible to reach the goal or you run out of cyber-money. Let's go ahead and set your goal.

Doug: Wow -- CY$5100. Could be tough. But if you score at least CY$5100, here's what you win.

Scarlett: The prizes in this package are a hunka, hunka burnin' love, baby. They're all related to the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley. And it starts with this collection of Elvis CD's -- all conviently stored in this jukebox!

(audience applause)

Scarlett: This jukebox, complete with the king's signature, flashes back to the golden days of rock 'n' roll. Comes with a remote control, 200-CD capacity, ten internal speakers and a certificate of authenticity.

And when you're done listening to Elvis's music, visit his mansion in historic Memphis, Tennessee.

(audience cheers)

Scarlett: You and a guest will fly round trip coach to Memphis for a six-night stay at a luxury hotel -- which, for your sake, is not located at the end of Lonely Street. Plus, you'll have a guided tour of Graceland and a private concert by an Elvis impersonator.

Plus, we're throwing in a king-sized payoff of CY$20,000 -- to make this jackpot worth -- CY$38,050.

(audience cheers)

Doug: All right. Great Elvis prizes. Now, to start you off on the right foot, I'm going to give you a chance to quadruple you CY$250 -- if you can accurately predict the suit of the card that's behind the J. Do you think it's a Spade, Heart, Club or Diamond?

Dom: Heart

Doug: He's going with Hearts. Let's flip around that first card and see some Hearts.

(ding) (mixed reaction from the crowd)

Doug: Yeah, good news and bad news. The good news is you're right on the suit. The bad news -- you're starting with an 8.

You must bet at least CY$500 that the next card is higher or lower than an 8.

Dom: Half lower.

Doug: Going half the score lower than an 8.

(buzz) (audience groans)

Doug: Rats. Lost 500 -- but gained a great card. Play off the Queen, please.

Dom: All in lower.

(lots of "woahs" and cheers from the crowd)

Doug: (crossing fingers) Now would be a good time for a 2. Betting the farm lower.

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Well -- just one notch lower -- but it's lower. Back to CY$1000. The goal is still within reach. Play off the Jack, please.

Dom: All in lower.

(more "woahs" and cheers from the crowd)

Doug: This man came to play. Again, it would be great if we turned around a 2. Is the next card lower than a Jack?

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: Yes -- and you're near the middle. A 7. You have to bet at least a grand the next card's higher or lower than a 7.

Dom: Half higher.

Doug: Betting CY$1000 that the next card's higher. If it's an Ace, you'll have CY$3000 and *of course* you'll want to bet it all lower. What's the next card?

(ding; audience applause)

Doug: You're right again -- but still an ugly card. Jackpot's still within your grasp. What's your next call?

Dom: Half lower.

Doug: All right, if the next card's a 2, you'll definitely have the jackpot. Anything between 3 or 9 inclusive pays CY$1500. Please turn that next card around -- and let's see a winner.

(buzz) (audience groans)

Doug: Rats. Well -- with that, the jackpot's now out of reach. The Elvis prizes go through to the next Jackpot Game.

Dom, you still have one card left. If you like, you may stop here, take CY$1500 and call it a day -- or, you may bet at least CY$750 that the next card is higher or lower than the Jack of Diamonds.

Dom: What the hell. All in lower.

(audience cheers)

Doug: Wow. Nothing or CY$3000 on the turn of the last card. I hope it works out for you. Let's see another Jack or something less.

(strike buzzer; audience groans; BB87 loss cue)

Doug: OH NO!!

(more groans from the crowd)

Doug: (shakes head) Well, we do have the encyclopedia set we talked about earlier for you -- as well as our thanks for being a gutsy player. Dom deserves a big hand.

(audience cheers)

Doug: On that unlucky note, we wrap up another episode of Hot Dice. 'Til next time, make it a great day, keep the faith and treasure your loved ones.
